Mayoral Visit

We were delighted to welcome Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London to our Bermondsey Healthy Living Centre as part of Volunteers Week, in collaboration with Good Gym and Team London, where he met volunteers from the University College London volunteering service, and participated in activities with our members.
London’s newly-elected Mayor visited Age UK Lewisham & Southwark in June 2016 to launch Volunteers Week and talk about social integration.
The visit was organised in collaboration with Team London and Good Gym, who organised 28 volunteers to “run to do good” at Age UK Lewisham and Southwark’s Healthy Living Centre in Bermondsey. The Good Gym runners made their way from City Hall and spent time chatting to members, playing pool and gardening. The Mayor joined in with a game of pool and took part in dance activities with members.
Age UK Lewisham and Southwark are thrilled the Mayor took time to visit - and to recognise the value of community spaces in which older people can meet and take part in social and physical activities to combat the social isolation that older Londoners often experience.
