Extra help and support during a power cut
Although power cuts do not happen very frequently, when they do they can be at best inconvenient and at worst, cause major problems especially if you rely upon electricity for things like medical equipment. For this reason energy companies, including gas and electricity companies, and network suppliers who deliver the power, work together to care for customers who need some extra help and support.
In this way, the National Grid, who supplies our electricity want to ensure that older, disabled, people recently discharged from hospital and non-English speakers are supported.
Being on the Priority Services Register (PSR) means that the National Grid and their partners are able to provide you with extra support during planned power cuts and help you when unplanned power cuts occur.
It is quick and totally free to join the PSR. We support hundreds of people each year to sign up, so you can access the benefits below. If you signed up over 2 years ago, we can help you re-register to ensure your details are up-to-date and correct.
Benefits of registering on the PSR
National Grid will:
• Provide a dedicated and direct number you can call during a power cut to get straight through to speak to them
• Agree a password with you before they visit, so you know you can trust the person at the door
• Provide special help through trusted partners such as British Red Cross
• Keep you updated on any planned interruptions to your power supply
• Stay in touch with you during an unplanned power cut, including advice on how long it will last and reconnect your power supply as soon as possible
