Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland is dedicated to providing support and care to vulnerable individuals in our community. We are seeking a compassionate Support Worker to join our team creating a safe and welcoming space for individuals struggling with emotional and mental health challenges.

About the Role:

As a Support Worker, you will play a key role in providing individuals receive the emotional support they need in a comfortable, non-judgmental environment. Ensuring high standards of care, professionalism, and compassion. The role of the Support Worker is to support the Senior Support Worker in delivering this vital service to vulnerable individuals.

Role Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the operation of the Mental Health Café, ensuring it remains a welcoming and supportive environment.
  • Directly helping those who are experiencing emotional distress or mental health challenges.
  • Overseeing volunteers, ensuring they understand their roles and provide appropriate support.
  • The role may require responding to emotional needs, as well as potentially handling physically demanding situations in a calm and compassionate manner.
  • Working with a team to ensure the service runs smoothly and that everyone has the support they need.

      Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Understanding mental health issues, with direct experience in supporting individuals with mental health challenges.
  • Empathy, Patience & Compassion: Essential qualities for working in this field.
  • Resilience: Ability to stay emotionally and mentally strong, especially in difficult situations.
  • Sensitivity & Understanding: Being attuned to the needs and feelings of others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage with individuals and other team members.
  • Able to manage time effectively and ensure tasks are completed.
  • Balancing various duties during the café operations.
  • Comfortable using basic IT tools to manage records or assist with administrative tasks.
  • Understanding of safeguarding practices and the ability to apply them when necessary.
  • Ability to work in a diverse, multicultural environment, respecting the needs of individuals from various backgrounds.
  • A warm demeanour that helps build trust and create a safe environment for those in need.

Hours: Monday 9:30am – 1:30pm & Thursday 12:30pm – 4:30pm
Salary: £5005.76 per annum
