Cold weather payments of over £3.5 million
Published on 23 May 2011 12:00 PM
With summer well underway, this year's freezing winter feels a distant memory. But, following one of the worst winters in recent times, gas customers on the Age UK (1) Energy tariff, provided by E.ON, are set to receive additional Cold Weather Payments totalling more than £3.5 million (2).
Funded by E.ON, this sum will provide some financial relief to those in later life who were faced with higher energy bills after this year's bitter winter. The payment is to all Age UK gas customers and is in addition to the Government's Cold Weather Payment (3).
Gordon Morris, Managing Director of Age UK Enterprises, said: 'We do all we can to support those in later life manage their finances. This is why, with the support of E.ON, we guarantee that our gas customers will receive a minimum Cold Weather Payment of £10 on top of the Government's Payment - and this rises to £20 for customers aged 80 or above. Additional payments are also made based on the number of days the temperature drops below freezing between the beginning of December and the end of February.
'Over the past 11 years, our relationship with E.ON has delivered real benefits to people in later life for whom the cost of keeping warm can be a real concern, and our customers have benefitted from around £15m in Cold Weather Payments alone during this time.'
Graham Bartlett, Managing Director of E.ON Energy Solutions, said: 'Our Cold Weather Payments offer Age UK gas customers some practical support during the colder months. As the only energy supplier to offer energy products specifically designed to meet the needs of people in later life, we know how important this reassurance is.
'We've worked with Age UK for many years and are delighted with the signing of our new 10 year partnership. We intend to continue to bring financial assistance, competitive prices and excellent service to our customers for years to come.'
The guaranteed Cold Weather Payment is part of the tailored proposition developed for Age UK by E.ON, one of the UK's leading electricity and gas companies. The Age UK E.ON Energy product is designed based on insight into the needs of those in later life. It offers a range of tariffs for higher and lower users including price protection and online product options, information and advice on how to reduce energy usage, clear bills, no standing charges and dedicated customer support.
