Giving you more control over your data

In May 2018 the law changed. If you use the internet, no doubt you have been bombarded with emails them telling you how much they love you and saying that they don’t want you to leave them.

The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you more control over how we handle your personal information. We think this is a good thing, and want to tell you what we do.

What is below is a bit of a summary, so if you want to read all about it, please go to https://www.ageuk.org.uk/lambeth/privacy-policy/to get more detail.

How we look after your information

In order to provide our services, we collect information like your name, contact details, and sometimes more personal information like your gender, ethnic origin etc. Some of this information we need just so we can contact you. Other information, like your ethnic origin, is often asked by our commissioners who pay us to deliver the service or used by AUKL anonymously to make sure we are providing services to all of our community and not just one part of it.

We make sure we process, store and share your data safely and securely. And we always talk to you about signposting you to other services to help you.

And we expect any other service to be just as careful with your information as we are.

Your Rights

The new law gives you a number of legal rights to control what we do with your information. For example, you can ask to get a copy of the personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it. You can ask us to correct your data or even get rid of any information we have about you. Sometimes though, this makes it difficult for us to continue to provide a service, but your worker will talk that through with you.

When we start working with you we will ask you to sign a Consent Form. This will have a number of boxes for you to tick - or not- making sure we know exactly how we can use your personal data.

For more information about all of this have a look at www.ageuklambeth.org.uk/privacy  If you think we have not behaved as well as you might have liked and wish to make a complaint about the way we have handled your information,
