‘25 Good Deeds for Christmas’

Age UK Lambeth is launching their ‘Good Deed Advent calendar’ Christmas campaign and is asking the local community to join them in making the festive period more joyful for hundreds of older people in Lambeth who find this time of year to be challenging and often lonely.

*What's happening at the moment in London...

  • 44% of older Londoners living in social housing are in poverty
  • Older Londoners are 50% more likely to be experiencing food insecurity than those in the rest of England (12% compared with 8%)

With the ongoing effects of the pandemic coupled with the sharp increase in the cost of living, we need your support more than ever to continue our work throughout Lambeth. Our services are incredibly important all year round, but particularly during the Christmas period, when feelings of loneliness and isolation are increased by TV shows and adverts depicting bustling families and merriment.

In 2021/2022, we helped 76,881 people! From helping them source housing, welfare benefits and food supplies, to organising hundreds of MYsocial events across the year, to pairing up clients with a befriending volunteer to tackle loneliness.

We know that many people will be feeling the pinch financially this year more than ever, due to the current cost of living crisis. So with this in mind we have created our very first 25 days of Good Deeds Advent Calendar, starting on 1st December. This means that this year if you are unable to donate to our campaign you can still get involved by carrying out your own good deed to help spread compassion and kindness. We will be sharing daily good deeds for inspiration on our social media, so keep an eye out for our life sized advent calendar!

To help kickstart our campaign we will be running a 25 day good deed challenge where you can be sponsored to do one good deed everyday in December up to Christmas Day. Check out our website for more details about how to sign up.

Stuck for a good deed idea? Why not volunteer for our MY Ho Ho Ho Christmas meal offer?

We are asking volunteers to deliver a free Christmas meal to a local resident. We all tend to cook a little more than we need to so why not give someone the gift of a home cooked meal on Christmas Day this year? Sign up to be matched with an older person in your area.

To see all the ways you can get involved in our Christmas campaign, please visit our website. By supporting Age UK Lambeth you will help us tackle loneliness this Christmas and ensure that we can continue to provide the much needed support to the older residents of Lambeth.

We hope you are able to join us this year, in whatever capacity that might be!
