We are very aware that cost can present barriers for some people that want to use our services, and that the cost of living crisis is having a huge impact on many people’s financial situations.
Age UK Kent Rivers’ Welfare Fund can assist people who are experiencing extreme financial difficulty with accessing our services, or with various issues such as rising bills at home.
We know that the type of support people need will vary based on each individual and their situation, and we are keen to help all older and vulnerable people to Achieve Life’s Fullness, in whatever way we can.
Whether it is supporting people who are experiencing financial hardship to get involved in community activities, or assisting with finding solutions to the rising living costs, we are here to help you, with the ultimate goal of combatting loneliness and social exclusion as our top priority.
What is the Welfare Fund?
The Welfare Fund is designed specifically to help those who are under temporary financial hardship, for example whilst they are awaiting the results from a benefit application or are receiving support from the Social Services - intending to jump-start their involvement in social activities or the services they need.
However, we are also aware of the increasing financial difficulties people are experiencing due to rising costs, and aim to use the Welfare Fund to help those who are struggling. It is important for us to be able to offer truly charitable services in a very difficult climate for our beneficiaries, and our ultimate aim to help all older and vulnerable people in our local communities to Achieve Life’s Fullness.
Am I eligible?
The Welfare Fund is available to older people (50+) and carers of/adults with learning disabilities living in the Medway towns*. Welfare bursaries are provided according to the level of need and level of access to services being sought, and are designed to fill gaps left by temporary financial difficulties. We provide a safe, non-judgemental space to discuss your worries on an individual basis, and welcome applications at any time.
How do I apply?
Applications to the Welfare Fund can be completed by yourself, your Social Worker or on behalf of a qualifying friend/family member. Please obtain consent before submitting an application on someone else's behalf.
