About the Capstone Dementia Centre

Age UK Kent Rivers are proud to provide a quality, professional, person-centered service for people experiencing a range of memory concerns, whether formally diagnosed with Dementia or wanting to proactively reduce their symptoms.

We understand the impact that Dementia can have, not only on the person with a diagnosis but their family and carers as well. We offer specialised day break services at our Capstone Dementia Centre in Chatham, which gives carers an opportunity for respite, with the peace of mind that their loved ones are in safe hands, with staff who are trained to make sure attendees are as safe and comfortable as possible and take into account individual needs and interests.

A day at our specialist centre includes:

✓ Transport to and from the centre (subject to availability)
✓ Refreshments and a two-course lunch
✓ A variety of events and activities specifically designed for people living with Dementia or memory concerns.

Our Capstone Dementia Centre is focused on understanding each individual and their needs, and personalised care is delivered through stimulating activities ranging from cookery and baking, to arts and crafts and reminiscence.

Why join the Dementia Centre?

Age UK Kent Rivers are aware that over 850,000 people in the UK are living with dementia - that’s one in six people aged over 80. That's why we offer quality, community-based support services for people living with dementia or memory issues and their carers to improve their quality of life.

Our main objective is to reduce the isolation that many people with dementia feel when friends and neighbours stop calling or coming over to visit. This in turn can lead to social isolation which can sometimes lead to depression and lack of self-worth. We often see an improvement in a person's self-confidence by encouraging the continuation of the daily living skills that would otherwise be lost.

The Dementia Centre also provides an opportunity for a day of respite for the family and carers of the person with dementia, enabling the family and carers to continue their day-to-day routine, without the concern of their loved ones welfare.

Which activities are specifically designed for people with Dementia?

Activities at our dementia day centres are designed to be stimulating for the brain in a relaxed environment. Some of our activities are specifically for people with dementia to help to improve their mood and memory, such as:

o Singing for the brain
o Dance for dementia
o Art for dementia
o Seated exercise
o Interactive reminiscence unit
o Trips and outings
o Sensory trail (coming soon!)
