Volunteer with Us
Without our volunteers, we would not be able to provide the vital services we do to our local older communities.
Becoming a volunteer has so many benefits; not only are you helping to improve the lives of older people in your local community, but it is so rewarding and great experience too.
Our Volunteer Roles
-
Volunteer Befrienders
Age UK Kent Rivers' Befriending Service provides crucial support and companionship to older people who are experiencing loneliness and/or social isolation. You will be carefully matched to an older person with similar interests, and will simply spend time with them for a couple of hours a week. This service is life-changing for so many older people, and we are in desperate need of more Befrienders.
-
Volunteer Meal Delivery Drivers
Age UK Kent Rivers' Meal Delivery service provides older people with a hot, fresh, nutritious meal, directly to their door. Without our dedicated volunteer drivers, this would be impossible. Many older people struggle to cook for themselves and desperately look forward to their meal delivery and a quick chat with our friendly staff and volunteers.
-
Charity Shop Volunteer
Age UK Kent Rivers have been operating a popular charity shop in the heart of Gillingham on Skinner Street for over 20 years, all thanks to our fantastic staff and volunteers. Working as a Charity Shop Volunteer is a fantastic way to get some retail experience under your belt, all whilst knowing you are contributing to your local community. All profits from the shop go back into our services, and are used to top our Welfare Fund which helps to support older people experiencing financial difficulties.
-
Social Hub and Trips Volunteers
Whether it's encouraging customers to participate in activities at one of our Social Hubs, taking part in group sessions at one of our Dementia Hubs, or accompanying staff and customers on day trips (or all of the above!), we always welcome an extra pair of helping hands and we can promise that you will go home with a smile on your face, as there is nothing more rewarding than knowing you made a difference to someone's day.
