Covid-19: A message from our CEO

Thursday 23rd March 2020
Over the past couple of weeks, our services have come under enormous pressure to respond to the coronavirus pandemic and rally to support our older population in this difficult times.
We have maintained, where safe to do so, and where possible, services for older people to support their care, support and isolation needs.
Following the most recent government guidelines, and the country moving to a “Shielding” stage of the pandemic response, it is with heavy heart that I have to announce the closure of all of our public facing services, and activity centres, including our highly valued dementia care services.
All Age UK Medway centre based services will close from 4pm today 23rd March 2020, and will remain closed until further notice.
We are acutely aware, that for the people we support on a daily basis, this will be devastating news, and will be the start of a frightening period of time of isolation.
To that end, every member of our teams across the Medway towns will be redeployed into our Homecare services in Medway and Faversham, which remain operational, our Meal Delivery service, which is seeing an understandable increase in demand, and into our telephone based support services of Befriending and Good Day calls.
The public will still see our transport moving around the towns, please understand that this transport is being redeployed from its normal role too, and is being used to deliver meals, and supplies to our distribution points.
We sincerely hope that our beneficiaries understand why we are taking this action, and that the public and our supporters will recognise that this is now a time for the whole community to take care of the older population.
Our thanks to everyone who has been so generous in your support and encouragement over this last few weeks, we will need your support even more from today onwards.
We hope to be back to normal as soon as we can after the current situation has passed. Please continue to support us in that hope.
Thank you.
John Norley
