Age UK Medway's COGS Clubs are ideal for clients with cognitive concerns, such as the occasional forgetfulness that is caused by the onset of dementia. The COGS Clubs enable clients to come to a safe space where they can share their thoughts and ideas, as well as engage their minds to keep them focused and sharp. The COGS Clubs achieve this through the use of activities that include arts and crafts and other activities that are designed to aid in the maintenance of motor skills and cognitive abilities.
Audrey pictured is one such client that has been helped by the COGS Clubs, in finding a group of people that she can relate to, that can also help keep her mind focused an engaged which is a crucial part of helping to slow the progression of dementia.
Audrey's daughter Anita had this to say; "my Mum has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia. Since attending the COGS Club at Capstone, I have noticed that Mum has made some great improvements which have been noticed by the rest of the family. She enjoys coming and looks forward to attending each week, it’s a goal for Mum to spend time with people her own age and share their experiences. Thank you to Gemma and the rest of the staff who look after her and make her day at the club a happy one!"
