For too many older people, Christmas is the most lonely time of the year, with 2.3 million older people wishing they had just one person to spend time with.

That's why we are urging everyone to consider older people who may experiencing loneliness or isolation across the festive period, and to make it their New Year's Resolution to always remember to Ask About Alf.

Sadly, feeling lonely or left behind is simply the daily reality for many older people, and Christmas is just another day of feeling left on the shelf. A simple act of kindness can make the world of difference to someone’s life - to remember to Ask About Alf.

Our ALF Principle is all about taking action to help make sure that all older people, and adults with learning disabilities, can Achieve Life's Fullness.

Age UK Kent Rivers provides many services which are a lifeline to older people living in Medway, North Kent and Swale.

Many older people have told us that our services provide them with their only form of interaction all week, so please help us to make it count.

You can help make a real difference to the lives of older people, and there are so many ways you can help:

  • Ask About ALF - Check in with your older family members, neighbours and friends.  Sometimes just a small conversation can completely change someone's day (including yours!)
  • Volunteer with Us - Just one hour of your time per week can be lifechanging to an older person, whether it's Befriending, delivering Fresh Meals, or supporting your local day centre.
  • Donate to our Give Where you Live Campaign below.  By donating to Age UK Kent Rivers, you can ensure your money goes towards the services supporting older people in your local area.

Caring is not just for Christmas.

The reality is that older people who are lonely at Christmas, are likely lonely all year round.

So join us in making it your New Year's Resolution to care all year, and to always remember to Ask About Alf.
