Understanding how to apply for benefits

Age UK Islington can help you to understand what you need to know to apply for benefits and to let you know where to get specialist support for different benefits. We can also help you to connect to advocacy services that can represent your views in the event of an appeal.

Support applying for benefits

We can help and guide you to get supporting documents together to apply for benefits and to complete forms if writing or technology is difficult for you. We can also help you to work out how to get to an appointment or alternative ways to access the appointment if you have mobility issues. You can also contact us for any additional needs, e.g. getting a translator or sign language services.

Help with utilities & managing debt

We can help with identifying utility or council tax discounts that you might be eligible for and winter warmth grants that you can potentially apply for. In the event of financial hardship, we can help you to manage debt by connecting you to specialist services and to identify potential ways of getting help including emergency food support.
