September is Alzheimer's Awareness Month!
Age UK Islington and Islington Carers Hub are hosting a Dementia Awareness Information Session and on World Alzheimer's Day, will be hosting a Carers Talk session with a dementia theme.
Thursday 21 September, 11 - 12.30pm
Carers Talk, West Library, Thornhill Square, 107 Bridgeman Rd, London N1 1BD
Join us for this month's Carers Talk, with presentations and discussion about dementia.
There will be a presentation about support that is provided by the Islington Memory Team followed by questions & answers.
There will also be a presentation of Rita LITE, an invaluable tool to help people living with dementia which blends therapy with entertainment.
And as always, there will be time to chat with other Islington carers and members of the Islington Carers Hub team.
More about Rita LITE
Rita LITE is user-friendly, interactive and can assist those living with dementia to recall and share events from their past through listening to music, watching news reports of significant historical events, listening to war-time speeches, playing games and karaoke and watching films.
Furthermore, RITA Lite also includes the person centred content which will allow family members and carers to produce life collages, 'know your carer', life books, activity planners, daily activities etc.
Islington Carers Hub has a limited number of Rita LITE devices available for Islington carers, together with training to set up and use the device.

Monday 4 September, 10.30am - 12: Dementia Awareness Session (Zoom)
Join us for a free Dementia Awareness information session on Zoom, hosted by Dementia Friends Ambassador and carer, Jeanne Pring. The session will last approximately an hour followed by a question & answer session.
By raising awareness of dementia, it is hoped more people will be diagnosed earlier. Getting a diagnosis of dementia can give a better understanding of the condition and what to expect. Timely diagnosis can help with important decisions about treatment, support and care.
Why attend?
- Get an introduction to what dementia is
- Get an initial insight into what it's like to live with dementia
- Help support a friend or loved one
- Help members of your community
Who is it for?
It is open to any Islington residents (or with an Islington GP), or those caring for Islington residents.
How to join?
You'd need to register with Age UK Islington (adults of all ages) or Islington Carers Hub (unpaid carers).
To register / book please contact Age UK Islington or Islington Carers Hub on 020 7281 6018 / 020 7281 3319.
