  1. What is Dementia Awareness Week?

Dementia Awareness Week is a national event that encourages people to take action to improve the lives of people affected by dementia.

One in three of us born in the UK today will go onto develop dementia in our lifetime. There will be one million people living with dementia by 2025. By raising awareness about dementia, through various events across the UK including in Islington, it is hoped more people will be diagnosed earlier, giving more time for them to come to terms with future symptoms.

  1. What events are taking place in Islington during the week?

Organised by different community groups, organisations and Islington Council, a variety of events and activities will be taking place throughout the week across the borough in support of Dementia Awareness Week. Event details including times and links to register or take part online can be found below.

Carers Week 7-13 banner

Carers Week (7-13 June)

Following on from Dementia Action Week, there's the national Carers Week campaign at the beginning of June.  Do you know someone looking after a friend or relative?  If so, make sure that they know about Islington Carers Hub's programme of FREE online events.

So many people don't recognise themselves as a carer, they think of themselves as simply looking after a parent or loved one.  This means that too often they miss out on vital support to help support them in their caring role.

Book for sessions taking place every day to find out valuable information about benefits, information about support for looking after a loved one who has cancer, or who is living with dementia, mental health issues or a learning disability.  There will be fun, relaxation sessions too.

For the full programme and for how to book, see the Islington Carers Hub website.
