World Alzheimers Month 2021
Published on 01 September 2021 04:36 PM
What is World Alzheimers Awareness Month?
Every September for World Alzheimers Awareness Month, people come together from all around the world to raise awareness and to challenge the stigma that persists around dementia.
One in three of us born in the UK today will go onto develop dementia in our lifetime. There will be one million people living with dementia by 2025. By raising awareness about dementia, through various events across the UK including in Islington, it is hoped more people will be diagnosed earlier, giving more time for them to come to terms with future symptoms.
What events are taking place in Islington during the month?
We have partnered up with Dementia Friendly Islington so we can share a calendar of dementia-friendly events and information sessions. Organised by different community groups, organisations and Islington Council, these are happening throughout September.
Event details including times and links to register or take part online can be found below.
There is also a free five-week online course in October/November 2021 for those who care for someone with dementia, Tuesdays 10.30 - 12.30pm. This is hosted by C&I NHS Foundation Trust. For the course outline and to register, please see further down this page, below the table.
