All money raised for Age UK Isle of Wight stays here on the Isle of Wight.

We are an independent charity working throughout the community to provide services to older residents aged 50+, their families and carers. Whilst an associated brand partner of the national Age UK Charity, we have independent governance and our own responsibility for income generation. Every penny we receive stays on the Island and is used solely for the benefit of our local residents.

With your fundraising support we can help more older Islanders to improve their quality of life, whatever their situation.

Why Choose Us to Fundraise For?

With countless charities to choose from, we are truly grateful that you’re taking the time to consider us. Fundraising goes beyond just collecting donations; it fills us with immense gratitude to know that you’re willing to challenge yourself on our behalf to help support older individuals across the Island.

About Age UK Isle of Wight:

Age UK IW started in 1973, to enable older people on the Isle of Wight to live well, independently and to reduce loneliness and isolation.  For over 50 years now we have done this successfully, but as the average age on the Island continues to rise so does the demand for our charity and services.

The Isle of Wight Council predicts that by 2030 almost 34.5% of the Island population will be over 65, and with Age UK IW supporting individuals over the age of 50 we are acutely aware that this increase will affect our capabilities and services greatly.

Our services page (click here to view) explains all that we do, and whilst we are proud brand partners of Age UK, we are very much an independent and local charity, in charge of raising our own finances and self governing.  This means that every penny we raise stays on the Isle of Wight, supporting our parents, grandparents, neighbours, and friends.

Funding Misconceptions

The Age UK charity shops on the Island are very popular, but a common misconception is that the funds raised from these are ours. The shops are managed and fund Age UK - a deserving cause that supports national campaigning and movement for older people - but, a national one. Age UK Isle of Wight don't have charity shops.

We also do not commission national advertising or work outside of the Isle of Wight community.

Whilst we very much support everything that Age UK and the rest of the Age UK Network do, it can often lead to a misinterpretation about our funding needs. We invite you to read our Annual Report 2022 - 2023 to learn about the charities current financial position.

Last year alone, locally we supported nearly 5,000 clients and responded to just over 15,000 calls to our phonelines.

All these services require a level of funding, and whilst we are proactively looking at ways to raise funds ourselves, through our own fundraising and grant applications, we know that moving forward we need the support of our Island community to continue to support – our Island community!
