Age UK Isle of Wight is pleased to share a Christmas project that brought together local primary schools to spread festive cheer to older people who may be experiencing isolation this Christmas.
In a wonderful display of community spirit, students from Lanesend Primary School, Newport C.E. Primary, and Bembridge C.E. Primary created over 150 beautiful Christmas cards for older individuals who may be alone during this time of year or spending the Christmas period in St Mary's hospital.
Our hospital-based team at Age UK Isle of Wight has been actively distributing these cards to patients, some of whom have been in the hospital for months as they undergo rehabilitation and preparation for returning home or moving into onward care.
These cards serve as a reminder that, no matter how lonely a person may feel, there are caring individuals in the community thinking of them. Supported by dedicated primary school teachers, this initiative not only brightens the days of older people but also teaches students the importance of kindness and connection.
As we approach Christmas, we celebrate the power of small gestures and their ability to transform a person's outlook during the festive season. A simple card can make a significant impact, reminding everyone that they are not alone.
Thank you to all the students and teachers who contributed to this project.
Merry Christmas from all of us at Age UK Isle of Wight!
