Fine weather graced the inaugural East Wight Charity Tournament held at Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (RLTCC) on Saturday, 28th September. The event attracted 29 players who filled all six courts to compete in an exciting American Tournament format. Thanks to the enthusiastic participation and a raffle, the tournament exceeded its fundraising target for Age UK Isle of Wight.
After a lively afternoon of matches, participants enjoyed a mid-afternoon lunch served in the clubhouse. The highlight of the day was the closely contested play-off final, where Antonia Clayden and George Bristow triumphed over Liz Miles and Jon Lee with a score of 4-3. This match, like many others throughout the day, was decided in a nail-biting seventh game.
A total of £1,146.00 has been raised and donated to Age UK Isle of Wight, with thanks to the players for their contributions and generous donations from The Garlic Farm and Seaview Deli, who both made large donations in support of the event. This fundraising effort will directly benefit services for older people on the Isle of Wight, enhancing their quality of life.
Representatives from Age UK Isle of Wight expressed their appreciation to John Edwards, the event organiser, and a Trustee at Age UK Isle of Wight, and to RLTCC for graciously hosting the tournament.
