Age UK Isle of Wight is applauding a local theatre for their efforts to make their performances more accessible to older people. The Apollo Theatre, Newport, have added more matinee performances to their schedule in order to cater to the needs of the older population on the Island.
The charity and the Apollo Theatre have been in communication over the past few months, initiated by the charity’s Chairman and then continued through operational members of the team. “We discussed the importance of matinee performances to Age UK Isle of Wight’s clients, and we are very committed to making our shows accessible to as many of our community as possible.” – Ginnie Orrey, Apollo Theatre.
Geoff Read, Chairman of Age UK Isle of Wight, expressed his appreciation for the theatre's commitment to inclusivity. "We are pleased to see the local theatre making their shows more accessible to older individuals," Read said. "It is important for older people to have the opportunity to enjoy cultural events and entertainment, and matinee performances are a great way to make that happen."
The theatre's upcoming matinee performances include "Bedroom Farce," one of Alan Ayckbourn's most renowned plays. The play follows the story of Trevor and Susannah, whose marriage is on the rocks, as they inflict their miseries on their nearest and dearest: three couples whose own relationships are tenuous at best. The performances will be on 14th and 21st August, with all showings having a limited supply of tickets left. The show will be presented at 2:30pm and 7:30pm, providing options for both daytime and evening entertainment.
"We are looking forward to the upcoming show and are grateful to the theatre for considering the needs of older individuals in our community." Read added.
The theatre's commitment to inclusivity is a positive step towards creating a more age-friendly environment on the Isle of Wight. Age UK Isle of Wight hopes that other local businesses and organisations will follow suit and make similar efforts to accommodate older individuals in the community.
