Against The Gale: Age UK Isle of Wight’s Abseil Event Raises £4,600

On 24th September 2023, Age UK Isle of Wight successfully concluded their thrilling abseil event at nearby landmark, The Spinnaker Tower. Despite facing strong winds, participants showcased remarkable courage and determination throughout the summer-long event, which raised an impressive £4,623.65.
Originally scheduled for 3rd June, the abseil event faced numerous postponements due to the windiest summer the organisation has experienced. Safety being the top priority, the event organisers made the responsible decision to reschedule the abseil multiple times to ensure the well-being of all participants.
Undeterred by the challenges, participants demonstrated incredible bravery as they descended 100-meters down The Spinnaker Tower, battling winds of up to 23-knots. Wind speeds marginally above this threshold would have forced the event to be cancelled once more.
The event marked the culmination of a series of abseils held throughout the summer, with abseils took place on 19th August, 27th August, 3rd September, and 24th September. Despite the setbacks caused by the windy weather, all fourteen participants remained dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Age UK Isle of Wight.
Hover Travel Ltd., a generous supporter of the event, covered the travel expenses across The Solent and onwards, ensuring their safe and convenient transportation to The Spinnaker Tower.
