Join the Big Knit and Help Age UK Hythe, Lyminge and Ashford raise vital funds.

Age UK Hythe, Lyminge and Ashford is thrilled to be part of The Big Knit, a nationwide campaign that gives everyone the chance to make a difference by putting their knitting needles to work!

The Big Knit, in partnership with Innocent Drinks, encourages people of all ages to knit little woolly hats that will sit on top of Innocent smoothie bottles. For every smoothie sold with a tiny hat, 25p is donated to Age UK, helping to fund crucial services and support for older people in our community.

Why Join the Big Knit?

The money raised from your adorable mini hats will go directly towards services like our befriending programmes, dementia care, and local day centres—ensuring older people stay warm, safe, and connected during the colder months.

How to Get Involved

Whether you're a seasoned knitter or just starting out, The Big Knit is open to everyone! Here’s how you can join in:

  1. Knit a hat: Download one of the free knitting patterns from the Big Knit website. There are patterns for all skill levels—from beginners to advanced knitters.
  2. Send us your hats: Once you've knitted your mini creations, simply drop them off at or post them to our office at Age UK Hythe, Sanford House, Stade Street, Hythe, CT21 6BD.
  3. Spread the word: Share your creations on social media using #BigKnit and tag Age UK Hythe, Lyminge & Ashford to show your support!

The Impact of Your Support

Each hat you knit will go a long way in supporting older people in our local area. For every 20 hats knitted, £5 is raised. This may not sound like much, but those contributions add up to fund life-changing services that ensure older people are not left alone during the most difficult times of the year.
