The Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow & Brent COVID-19 Story
Published on 06 July 2020 10:45 AM
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on the older people that we support. Most have gone from being active and independent to being isolated in their homes. The effect this is having on their mental health is challenging and we are trying to alleviate these issues where we can.
Because we can no longer deliver 1:1 face to face befriending or group activities, we are ‘care calling’ existing and new clients, advising them on staying active, safe and well whilst in self-isolation. We are encouraging them to do exercises via our website if they are able to get online, if not we have dedicated professional trainers that are available to interact by phone, giving them the motivation to do sets of exercise’s that have been put together for them.
Many of our clients are in self-isolation in the 12 weeks recommended in the government guidelines which came into effect back in March. Internet shopping is not an option for many of them, so they are reliant on our volunteers to deliver urgent supplies of food and other basic essentials including medication.
As an Independent charity we have to raise our own funds, so your donation will help us to deliver our COVID-19 services, such as telephone befriending, care calling, sourcing and distributing emergency food packs and other basic items for the next 6 months.
Please make your donations via our secure donation button below through PayPal either using your PayPal account or your credit or debit card. We also accept cheques, please make them payable to Age UK HHB and send via post to:
