Celebrating our Volunteers

At the end of January, nearly 60 of our fabulous volunteers came together to celebrate yet another year of dedication, commitment, honest hard work and fun. We were delighted to have Councillor Shah attending to represent the Mayor of Harrow.
Hannah Cinamon, Director of Resources and Retail, thanked all the volunteers for their time, commitment and support.
Dylan who plays at our clubs sung a wide variety of songs. Many volunteers swayed along to the music. This was followed by a lovely lunch of chicken curry, 3-bean chilli and cake.
Gita and Claudie gave us a flavour of what it’s like to volunteer in the Information and Advice services. Both are relatively new to volunteering for us and described their progress from helping with basic administration tasks to helping people to complete benefit forms, amongst other skilled tasks. Their experience mirrors the experience of many and highlights the impact of volunteering on people's confidence and skills.
20 volunteers were due 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 year long service awards. Not all attended the party, however those who did had these presented by Neil Franklin, Chair of the Trustee Board.
This year’s exceptional service award went to Rita Wilson. Rita will be well known and loved by many people in Uxbridge who pop in for advice at our information centre. What isn't so well known is the amount of time she spends helping in other areas, such as helping to administrate our client data base. Thank you Rita!
A raffle was also held, with prizes having been donated by local organisations and our charity shops. Most volunteers went home with something and looking forward to next years event.
