Age UK Hertfordshire are delighted to announce that on 6th April Chalmers Court Dementia Day Centre will be re-opening for clients in Rickmansworth.
“It has been a very difficult and challenging year for clients, carers, staff and volunteers.” says Mark Hanna, Interim Chief Executive, “Obviously the year has been hard for everyone, but for many of our clients coming to Chalmers Court is such an important part of their life, and change to routine can be very upsetting and unsettling for people with dementia, so we are delighted to be able to re-open, safely, and to be able to support both clients and carers again.”
The centre offers two course hot lunch and refreshments, gentle chair based exercises, reminiscence and memory games, music therapy, arts and crafts activities and chance for clients to socialise and enjoy good company.
“Without the club I would just be sitting at home, so when I go to club I get more involved” said a client at Chalmers Court.
Carla Johnson, Head of Active Ageing, adds that “Throughout the year we have closed and re-opened the centre in line with government advice. Alongside this, Staff have continued to support all clients and their carers by offering regular video calls, newsletters and when allowed have telephone comfort calls, created and delivered activity packs, made socially distanced visits, we’ve even brought activities like Cuppa Concerts to the door for some of the clients. But nothing is better than being back together, so I’m relieved and delighted that we can finally re-open and continue our vital work.”
