Kath's Story

Published on 17 December 2020 12:04 PM

Kath, 93, cared for her two brothers after the passing of both her mother and father in the 1920s. Taking on the role of ‘mum’ in her teens, she was extremely close to her brothers. And when they both passed away in 2014 she found it very hard to deal with.

Kath was so traumatized that she refused to leave her home. Kath’s carer was worried that her mental health had started to decline, so she contacted Katie, one of Age UK Hertfordshire’s 10 to 3 club supervisors.

At first Kath was hesitant about joining the club. But Katie reassured her and spent time with her on her first visit to make sure she felt safe and supported.  On her second visit to the club Kath was more confident, and by week three her confidence shone and kept on growing. Kath has been going to her 10 to 3 club for 4 years now, and has enjoyed everything from the people, the singing sessions, the game days to just having a chat.

“It is great here, it’s so much fun. If I didn’t have their group I don’t know what I’d do or where I would be.”
