Frank's Story

Frank had lived alone for a long time since his wife’s death and has no contact with the outside world. When offered a befriender from Age UK Hertfordshire, he struggled to accept having a stranger in his house.

However, after some reassurance and being introduced to Ruth, Frank’s agreed to Ruth visiting him regularly. Ruth gave Frank something to look forward to, a bit of banter to brighten his week and they put the world to rights. Ruth encourages Frank to get the paper from his local shop so they can chat about the news.

The trips to the shop have helped with Frank’s mobility and confidence in going out. Frank said: "I'd never thought I could get on so well with someone I has never met and it has gone some way to restoring my confidence in human nature."
