Danny's Story

Danny, 96, spent most of his working life working on coal trains in Hertfordshire and across Europe. He was married for 74 years and when his wife passed away Danny says he felt incredibly isolated and alone.
“You forget how much you rely on your partner, and when my wife passed away I became so lonely, she was a part of me.”
Danny’s carer noticed that he wasn’t leaving the house and didn’t really speak to anyone from one day to the next.
“I was persuaded to attend my local 10 to 3 club by my carer. I didn’t want to go at first. I didn’t want to sit with them ‘old people’, but you forget that you are old yourself!”
“I was so surprised when I came, everyone is so kind and friendly and we all look out for each other. Coming to my local 10 to 3 club is like one big family to me.”
Danny now has many friends, like Lesley who also used worked on coal trains during WW11.
“We’re best friends now, and its great being able to find friendship at this age is wonderful.”
