How our Help Team provided a helping hand when it matters most

Our Help Team received a telephone message from Mary enquiring whether there was any financial support to replace a broken double-glazed window. The broken window was unable to be closed and was hanging over a street. She was concerned that the window could potentially fall onto the street below and cause injury to a passer-by.

Our Help Team contacted Mary and discovered that she also suffered from complex health issues including respiratory. She also had poor mobility. Her main concern was that her property would become cold during over the winter months as the window wouldn’t shut properly. As she only receives the state pension, she was concerned that the draft would increase her heating bills which she couldn’t afford. She wouldn’t be able to keep her home warm.

The Help Team quickly got to work to see how they could help Mary keep her property warm. Our Help Team manager swiftly applied for various grants, and we arranged for the window to be fixed immediately. She was delighted that her window is now secure and draft-free.

Mary later sent us a thank you card expressing her sincere thanks to AUKG and the other charitable funds who supported her.

I am very grateful to AUKG and the other charity support. It has made a massive difference to the warmth in my property as well as peace of mind that the window was now safe and unable to fall onto the street below”.

This is just one of the ways our Help Team can help support older people overcome threats to their health and security through our partnerships with other organisations so they can remain safe and secure in their homes.
