Would you like to make a positive impact in the life of an older person? It could be life changing for you too!
Here at Age UK Gloucestershire, we know and value the positive impact volunteering has. We have a wide variety of volunteer roles where you can use your unique skills and experience to improve the life of an older person and make Gloucestershire the best county in which to grow old. Even if you have only a few hours a week free we’d love to hear from you. Whether you’d like to work with a group or prefer one to one, we’re sure we can find the right opportunity for you. You’ll be supported every step of the way with training and the backing of our committed colleague team.
Our volunteers tell us that they enjoy the time they give to us. They make a valuable contribution to their local community, make new friends, build confidence, and develop new skills. We believe our volunteers are the experts so here’s what they have to say about our supporting us in their own words:
Why do you choose to give your time?
‘I believe it to be a win/win situation – I help people and also it is hugely beneficial to my own wellbeing’ David – Digital Champion Volunteer
‘I wanted to keep busy and to give something back. Volunteering was the answer!’ John - Help Team Volunteer
‘After being out of work due to illness for a number of years, I wanted to build my confidence and get involved in helping other people to help prepare myself for returning to paid work as my recovery journey continues.’ Lottie - Help Team Volunteer
Why did you choose Age UK Gloucestershire?
‘Age UK Gloucestershire empowers and supports older people to live resourceful and contented lives in their community. I believe in the work we do and feel proud to be part of such an invaluable charity’ Jay – Hospital Hub Volunteer
What’s the most rewarding element of volunteering?
‘Helping people who are less able to help themselves. Making a little easier for others is what it’s all about’ John
‘Building up connections and friendships, both of which can be more difficult to make as one ages’ David
‘The most rewarding elements in volunteering for me is a feeling of purpose, being an active part of the community, and making a difference to other people.’ Lottie
‘I enjoy helping people who are not able to do as much as they once could. At this point in my life it gives me a purpose, and the joy of making others happy’ Paul - Social Group Volunteer
