Age UK Gloucestershire Social Groups enjoy a day out at Highgrove
Thanks to the invite and generosity of The King’s Charity, The Prince’s Foundation, we were able to offer a ‘Winter Warmer’ day out for members from three of our social groups.
Thanks also to Age Concern, Churchdown for renting us their community minibus, which made the visit possible for members of our Tank social group (Gloucester Quays), Churchdown Library social group and The Keepers social group who are based in Wotton Under Edge.
The Winter Warmers initiative which was set up to help combat loneliness and the cost-of-living crisis across the UK is being run by the King’s charity, The Prince’s Foundation.
Running from January to March, the weekly initiative in Highgrove's Orchard Room provides a welcoming place for local people to gather and offers a warm haven for those who may be feeling the pinch of the current cost of living crisis.
We were met with a warm welcome; treated to a lovely fresh Leek and Potato Soup lunch and were entertained with a Quiz amongst other activity available around the room. The venue itself provided a glimpse into Royal Family life with family portraits, pictures, and other artifacts from around the globe.
Our social groups are primarily about people connecting with others, finding out what information and advice is available to them in the wider community with Age UK Gloucestershire and other partners providing, not only that vital wrap-around support, but also making opportunities such as this one available to group members.
Everyone had a lovely afternoon, and some met other group members for the first time, so it was good to be able to provide this opportunity also for people to meet, make new friends, share experiences and information.
