Baking something delicious for others to enjoy feels good – and it’s even more rewarding when you’re doing it to raise money for a great cause. We've got all the information, tips and advice you'll need to host a successful charity bake sale for Age UK in your office or local community.

Information and tips

  • Pick a popular time and busy location. If you're doing a bake sale in public, choose a location that gets visited by a lot of people – like a shopping centre, a library or your local high street. A Saturday is often the busiest day for people to be out and about, or a weekday lunchtime if you're near workplaces. If you're hosting your bake sale for an invited list of people, choose a time and place that's convenient for everyone.
  • Advertise. Once you've picked a date, send invites out nice and early or use our downloadable poster to advertise your event.
  • Get help from others. The more, the merrier! Recruit some fellow bakers to boost the number of sweet treats you can sell on the day. And remember: if you're not a keen baker, shop-bought treats are fine too!
  • Plan what you're going to sell. Appeal to all tastes by selling a wide range of baked goods, allowing for dietary requirements.
  • Plan how much you're going to charge. Set a price for each item, and collect cash on the day or set up a JustGiving page so your guests can donate online. You can also create and print off a QR code for your JustGiving page so guests straight to the page on their smart phones. Visit JustGiving for more information on how to do this.
  • Seek donations from local businesses. Do you have some contacts that you could ask to donate a sweet treat?
  • Add an extra way to raise money. Incorporate a raffle into your bake sale to raise some extra funds, or add a competitive element with a bake off or blind taste test.
  • Practise good food hygiene and label bakes with allergens. Following hygiene standards and ensuring goods are labelled correctly will keep your bake sale safe for everyone.
  • Decorate your stall. Draw people in with an appealing bake sale stand, using decorations like our bunting.
  • Pay in your money. Make sure all your guests have donated via your JustGiving page, or pay in the money you've raised yourself once the bake sale is over.

Why raise money for Age UK?

Every older person should be included and valued, but that isn't the reality. Across the UK, thousands of older people are left feeling isolated and forgotten, with no one to talk to about challenges like care, the cost of living crisis, and loneliness in later life.

By fundraising for Age UK, you'll support services like the Age UK Advice Line, which offers timely information and support 365 days a year. You'll help us campaign for older people’s rights, so we can push for the UK to be a better place to grow older in the years to come. And you'll support our telephone friendship service, which connects older people with someone to talk to whenever loneliness strikes.
