Volunteer Befrienders
Befriending Volunteers
During the pandemic, many older people lost touch with their local community. Loneliness is a major issue, with 1.4 million older people in the UK affected by it. This issue is often higher in rural, and coastal towns.
We are linking Volunteer Befrienders to a local older person who needs a little support. This is through a weekly telephone call for up to 26 weeks, with possible face-to-face contact from the volunteer, if practical and relevant. Our aim is to encourage the client to be better connected in their community so that they no longer feel isolated and require befriending.
As part of our Befriending Team we will support you with training and provide ongoing assistance.
