To help older people maintain their dignity and independence by assisting at our Day Centre on Mondays, helping to provide a friendly atmosphere for older people to meet and enjoy each other’s company.

What a Day Centre Helper volunteer does:

  • Establish, maintain, and develop relationships with users within the centre
  • Aid with domestic tasks including serving hot drinks and meals.
  • Report any concerns about the safety, health, or well-being of service users
  • Helps and support older people to participate in a range of activities

to provide social interaction and stimulation. Activities can include Current Affairs, Quizzes, Arts & Crafts, Knitting and Bingo.

Personal qualities most suited to this role:

  • A liking for and empathy with older people
  • Understands the need for confidentiality
  • Enjoys working as part of a team
  • Reliability and trustworthiness
  • An interest in developing activities for older people

How much time is involved?

Morning, afternoon, or full day sessions as agreed. You can stop volunteering at any time but please do let us know as soon as possible.

Expenses and Insurance:

We will cover agreed out-of-pocket expenses for volunteers (e.g., travel costs). A DBS police check certificate will be required. We can help you to obtain a free but compulsory DBS police Check.

You will also be covered by our professional indemnity insurance. We will also insure you for the time you are volunteering with us.
