Saying thank you to all our Age UK Ealing volunteers

As we celebrated Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee earlier this month, it was also time to recognise the incredible achievements of all our Age UK Ealing volunteers – without them, we couldn't do the work that we do for older residents across Ealing.
So, as community members, service users and party guests looked on, Age UK Ealing's Chair of Trustees Charles Lowe chaired a special ceremony to thank all our volunteers for their hard work, commitment and dedication.
Nine volunteers also received special awards for long-standing and outstanding service. Charles was joined by Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Mohinder Midha; Mr Virendra Sharma, the Labour MP for Ealing, Southall; and James Murray, Labour (co-op) MP for Ealing North to congratulate those receiving special awards including Elizabeth Rowell, who, at the age of 79, is officially our longest-standing volunteer.
Elizabeth has been part of our Information and Advice team for an amazing 23 years, having originally started after taking early retirement from the BBC in 1998. After receiving her Long Service Award, Elizabeth said: "I love volunteering for Age UK Ealing and spending time with all my wonderful friends here. I enjoy [the role] so much, as the people I am able to help are all so grateful.”
As well as Elizabeth, eight other volunteers received special awards at the ceremony. They were:
- Jo Buckley, a Volunteer Receptionist & Telephone Befriender who has been working with us for 8 years and received a Long Service Award
- Susan Collins, who has been a Volunteer Day Centre Helper for five years and received a Long Service and an Outstanding Service Award
- Katrina Dawson, Volunteer Telephone Befriender/Neighbourly Connector, who received an Outstanding Service Award
- Amit Dhiman, a Volunteer Telephone Befriender/Neighbourly Connector who also received an Outstanding Service Award
- Victoria Manning, who has been working with us as a Volunteer Telephone Befriender for six years and received a Long Service Award
- Rasila Mehta, Volunteer Receptionist, who has been working with us for seven years and received a Long Service and an Outstanding Service Award
- Christine Warman, who has been a Volunteer Day Centre Helper for five years and received a Long Service and an Outstanding Service Award
- Joy Warman, Christine's sister and another Volunteer Day Centre Helper. She has been volunteering for six years, and received a Long Service and an Outstanding Service Award.
