Volunteers Week: Voluntary Action Doncaster's AGM
Published on 10 June 2022 08:23 AM
On Friday, the 3rd of June, Age UK Doncaster attended the Voluntary Action Doncaster AGM and summer fayre at Rossington Hall. During the event, attendees were able to meet new contacts, take part in outdoor activities, share ideas and opportunities, and most importantly, celebrate working together and volunteering.
The main theme of the event focused on Volunteers Week. This national campaign celebrates the contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK. The event schedule included speed networking and volunteer sign up, which took place in the marketplace. We were joined by representatives from some amazing charities such as Changing Lives, SY Community Foundation, DCLC, Project 6, DICE, BFriend, YWCA Yorkshire and Active Independence to name a few. Moreover, we heard from Voluntary Action Doncaster's Head of Training and Wellbeing who discussed the benefits of volunteering to one's well-being.
Volunteers make an incredible difference to the lives of older people who need us the most. In 2022, over 200,000 people volunteered across local and national Age UK organisations. Age UK Doncaster's Operations Manager, Lesley Hill, who also volunteers as a trustee at Voluntary Action Doncaster, stressed the importance of volunteering. ‘Volunteering provides vital support to local communities. As well as enriching the lives of others, it can also improve your own physical and mental well-being’.
Here at Age UK Doncaster, volunteers are a vital part of our workforce. Without these fantastic individuals, a number of our services would not be able to exist. We are always looking for volunteers, and we have a number of opportunities available. If you're looking for a volunteering role where you can learn new skills, join a fantastic team, and support a great cause, we'd love to hear from you.
