Trustees have independent control over, and legal responsibility for, Age UK Devon’s management and administration.

Where:

Our Trustee Board Meetings are held in Exeter.

When:

Trustees are required to attend in-person Board meetings held in April, July, October and January. Meetings usually take between 2-3 hours.

Trustees can also be members of our Strategy Committee, and/or Finance Committee which meets virtually one month prior to each Board meeting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complying with Age UK Devon's governing document and the law.
  • Being enthusiastic for the work of Age UK Devon, and having the time, ability, and commitment to carry out the duties of a Board member.
  • Acting in Age UK Devon’s best interests by working closely with other Trustees and Senior Managers to provide sound strategic direction and decision making based on current best information.
  • Safeguarding the good name and values of Age UK Devon.
  • Managing Age UK Devon’s resources responsibly to ensure effective and efficient delivery of the 2024-27 Strategic Plan, annual Business Plans and budgets.
  • Being accountable to the charity, employees and volunteers.

Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of the third sector, have been a trustee for another charity, and /or have a real interest in older people.
  • Commitment to the aims and objectives of Age UK Devon, in promoting it in the best interests of its stakeholders and staff.
  • Strategic vision and understanding.
  • Good independent judgment.
  • Ability to think creatively.
  • Understanding of legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship, together with an understanding of the financial aspects of running a charity.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, contributing an independent perspective.
  • Possess integrity, objectivity, accountability, honesty.

Our commitment to you:

  • We will complete a volunteer induction with you providing information about Age UK Devon, the services we provide and full details of the volunteering role.
  • You will recieve weekly updates from the CEO.
  • You will be sent Board Papers in advance of meetings.
  • Any travel expenses you incur to fullfill the volunteering role.
  • You will gain experience of the Third Sector and being on a Board of Trustees.
  • You will become apart of the Age UK Devon volunteering team, receiving our regular Volunteering eNewsletter and the opportunity to take part in events/celebrations for our volunteers.
  • Free participation at sessions.
