In memory of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

Following the announcement of the passing the Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, Age UK Derby and Derbyshire want to offer their deepest condolences as we remember an amazing lady.

Her Majesty the Queen was a thoroughly inspiring lady whose devotion to her family, people, country and Commonwealth was outstanding. She showed us all what is means to serve, and to how to do that with dignity and faith. She was a great role model for all ages but especially highlighting what can be achieved in older age. She will be remembered for her commitment, dedication and warmth as well as the incredible records that she broke in her reign.

On the 6th February 2022, Her Majesty The Queen, became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth. It was such a special occasion, with the whole country celebrating Her Majesty’s great achievements.

According to Derbyshire Life (https://www.greatbritishlife.co.uk/people/queen-in-derbyshire-8982618), The Queen’s first official visit to Derbyshire came in 1957, four years after her coronation, when she was greeted by a vast assembly of 22,000 schoolchildren at the now closed Sudbury Railway Station. She visited Derby and Derbyshire on various occasions since then, with the most recent visit being in 2014 where she visited Matlock, John Smedley Mill in Lea and Chatsworth House.

The Queen has ruled for longer than any other Monarch in British history, becoming a much loved and respected figure across the globe. Her extraordinary reign has seen her travel more widely than any other monarch, undertaking many historic overseas visits. Known for her sense of duty and her devotion to a life of service, she has been an important figurehead for the UK and the Commonwealth during times of enormous social change.
