We're delighted to announce an opportunity for someone with a heart for community service to join our Digital Champions Project.

This role is central to coordinating the Digital Champion Programme, which aims to help older people in our community become more digitally savvy. Working alongside the Age Cymru West Glamorgan team and our Volunteer Digital Champions, you'll be instrumental in spreading digital awareness, showcasing the benefits of being online, and ensuring technology is accessible to all.

Your role will involve organising activities, clearly communicating with participants and volunteers, and ensuring the smooth delivery of the programme. Whether it's providing support over the phone, handling email inquiries, or being present at community events, your efforts will make a real difference.

  • Reporting to: Charity Support Manager
  • Hours: 18 hours per week
  • Salary: £12,870 (FTE £25,025)
  • Contract Type: Fixed term until December 2025 (Renewal dependant on funding).
  • Start Date: July 2024
  • Location: Based at Age Cymru West Glamorgan, 250 Carmarthen Road, Swansea, SA1 1HG with travel throughout the community.
  • Travel Expenses: 45p per mile.
  • Annual Leave: 26 days pro rata and statutory bank holidays
  • DBS: This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS with Adult Barring

Key Responsibilities

  1. To embrace the organisations values and culture of freedom and responsibility, working together as a team to achieve our vision whilst keeping our clients at the heart of everything we do.
  2. Coordinate the overall delivery of the Digital Champion Programme to meet agreed deadlines and project goals.
  3. Ensure all project reporting is accurate and on time.
  4. Provide regular updates about the program.
  5. Support and contribute to the programme evaluation as necessary, for example, taking part in interviews or identifying volunteers and/or older people to participate in the evaluation, and supporting them to do so.
  6. Effectively support the team (paid and volunteer staff) to deliver a quality and impactful service.
  7. Support recruitment, supervision, and retention of the volunteers to boost delivery of the service.
  8. Match Volunteer Digital Champions with older people effectively, based on assessment of both volunteer and older person’s skills, needs and interests.
  9. Scheduling Digital Champion Programme support and managing the support calendar.
  10. Establish and maintain successful referral routes for older people into the service, internally and externally.
  11. Seek out opportunities within the community to promote the service and its benefits, including organising and attending activities and events.
  12. Manage all referrals generated in line with relevant procedures and reporting requirements.
  13. Oversee the coordination of the Digital Skills Sessions, including booking venues, organising travel, and getting approval for any expenditure.
  14. Oversee the management of the Technology Loan and Donation Schemes, ensuring procedures are adhered to and appropriately managed.
  15. Represent the service and Age Cymru West Glamorgan at external meetings as required.
  16. Contribute to wider discussions around digital inclusion and exclusion in local area and more widely.
  17. Identify opportunities to ensure Age Cymru West Glamorgan’s digital inclusion services are sustainable building on this programme to maximise those opportunities.
  18. To ensure that all work conforms to Age Cymru West Glamorgan systems and procedures.
  19. To maintain client confidentiality and adhere to GDPR procedures.
  20. Identify any safeguarding concerns and follow the relevant procedures to ensure correct action is taken.
  21. Be willing and able to work and travel within Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, or Bridgend as and when needed.
  22. To undertake any other duties as may be requested from time to time by the Line Manager.

Technical Competence

  • Fully IT literate with an interest in using new technology to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office, Teams, and Outlook and cloud-based CRMs.
  • Ability to work with data methodically and accurately for concise projecting reporting.
  • Working knowledge of common IT devices and operating systems.

Essential knowledge and experience

  • Excellent organisational skills, and ability to manage multiple workstreams.
  • Ability to successfully oversee projects with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, internally, and externally (both oral and written).
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently and on own initiative.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing needs.
  • Ability to meet reporting deadlines and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Good networking and ability to build relationships to actively promote the project to reach a wider audience.
  • Working understanding of GDPR regulations and how to handle sensitive data

Desirable knowledge and experience (not essential)

    • A track record of successfully developing and delivering a service for older people or other vulnerable groups.
    • An understanding of project management principles.
    • Understanding of volunteer recruitment, management, and retention.
    • Knowledge of the issues and barriers affecting older people and those around them, in relation to the digital skills agenda.
