About Age Cymru West Glamorgan

We are a local charity providing a range of services to our clients, families and carers across the Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend areas promoting wellbeing, helping people to age well and live independently.

Role Description:  

Working with our Digital Team, you will provide immersive and engaging virtual reality (VR) experiences to older, unpaid carers, offering them a much-needed respite from their caring role.

Focusing on the promotion of well-being and self-care, the VR Experiences will give older carers the chance to explore new worlds, relax, and enjoy moments of joy and wonder.

This role is a wonderful opportunity to bring joy and relaxation to those who dedicate their time to caring for others. If you have a passion for technology and a heart for helping people, we would love to hear from you!

Hours: We are looking for a passionate volunteer who can commit to supporting our monthly VR events. Each event typically lasts around three hours. Your time and dedication would make a significant impact!

Location: Community Based throughout Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.

What will you do?

  • Facilitate VR Sessions: Set up and guide carers through VR experiences, ensuring they are comfortable and understand how to use the equipment.
  • Create a Welcoming Environment: Foster a supportive and friendly atmosphere where carers feel valued and at ease.
  • Promote Well-being: Encourage carers to take regular breaks and enjoy the mental and emotional benefits of VR Experiences.
  • Gather Feedback: Collect Feedback from carers about their VR experiences to continually improve the service and adapt to their needs.

What skills do you need?

  • Empathy and Patience: A compassionate and patient demeanour to support carers who may be unfamiliar with VR Technology.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills to explain VR Processes clearly and patiently.
  • Technical Proficiency: Basic understanding of VR technology and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems – training will be provided.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that may occur during VR sessions.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to the varying needs and preferences of different carers.

Please note this is a voluntary position. Age Cymru West Glamorgan will reimburse volunteers for out of pocket travel costs including public transport costs.
