We are delighted to announce the appointment of Sophia Miller as our new Chair of Trustees and Mahaboob Basha as Vice Chair of Trustees at Age Cymru West Glamorgan.
Their leadership will be instrumental in guiding the charity as we continue to support older people across our community.
A fond farewell and heartfelt thanks to Mel Rayner
Sophia takes over from Mel Rayner, who has dedicated over six years to leading our Board of Trustees. Under his leadership, the charity has navigated some of its most challenging times, including the Covid-19 pandemic, where he played a key role in overseeing the launch of our Meal Delivery Service, ensuring vulnerable older people had access to nutritious food. He also led the charity following a successful merger, strengthening our ability to provide essential services and support everyone to age well.
We are incredibly grateful for Mel’s dedication, insight, and leadership, which have shaped the charity into what it is today.
Looking ahead with Sophia and Mahaboob
As Chair of Trustees, Sophia will lead the Board in shaping the strategic direction of the charity, ensuring strong governance, and representing us externally. Working alongside her, Mahaboob will support governance coordination and play a key role in strengthening our connections with partners and stakeholders.
Sophia said: "I extend my heartfelt thanks to Mel Rayner for his outstanding dedication and leadership as Chair over the past six years. Now, more than ever, it is vital that we continue supporting our community to age well and enjoy life. I am honoured to work alongside Mahaboob and our dedicated board to drive Age Cymru West Glamorgan’s vision and strategic goals, ensuring the charity continues to make a meaningful difference in our community."
Mahaboob adds: “I’m honoured to step into the role of Vice Chair at Age Cymru West Glamorgan and support a cause so close to my heart. Supporting older people, especially those from diverse backgrounds, to feel valued, included, and truly at home in our communities is a responsibility I deeply cherish. I look forward to working alongside Sophia and the board to strengthen partnerships, expand our reach, and ensure everyone can age with dignity and belonging.”
Both bring a wealth of experience, passion, and commitment to improving the lives of older people in our community. We are excited for the future under their leadership!
Please join us in thanking Mel for his years of service and welcoming Sophia and Mahaboob into their new roles.
