Gwanwyn Art Exhibition

Published on 07 June 2018 02:22 PM

Y Cartref was full to the brim of activity on the evening of March 23rd. It was a very important evening for the Gwanwyn club who were celebrating creativity in older age.

The club began back in August of 2017, shortly after we moved to Y Cartref. Local artists were invited to give examples of their work and gave people opportunities to experiment with different types of art and crafts, before deciding which experimental work would improve their skills in the months leading up to Winter.

The artists who went on with the group were Marian Sandham, an experienced artist from Rhostryfan who taught the attendees how to develop themselves and to give them confidence to create some very professional pieces. Lora Morgan who specialises in craft work concentrated on felt works which lead the attendees to create some very special pieces as a team and as individuals

Dylan Parry joined the group at a later date to add some metal work to the mix which proved to be very popular. Who would have thought that a beautiful rose could be created out of a can of drink?

The artists (as we now call the attendees) have become a group of friends who have found hidden talents and friendship.

The exhibition of the work done over the months was an achievement for them all and it was great to see so many come along to see their work. The sun was shining and everyone enjoyed the Cheese and Wine night.

I would like to thank Catrin Keller  for the entertainment on the evening  who came along with her harp and created a beautiful atmosphere to the night.

I would also like to thank Tesco and Morrisons  for  their kind donations of wine towards the evening.

I am pleased to announce that following the project’s success,  the artists have decided to carry on attending weekly. There is a welcome for all to visit and to view the gallery of work that is here at Y Cartref and if anyone  fancies joining in there is a welcome to all.

Find your hidden talents – it is never too late to start
