We at Age Cymru Gwynedd and Môn have recently received good news in that we have been successful in securing funding from the Welsh Government's Voluntary Services Emergency Fund (administered by WCVA), and also from the People and Places Community Fund (Lottery) to provide a project supporting older and vulnerable people in the community during the period of shielding from Covid-19 and also to provide support into the future when restrictions are relaxed. This will contribute towards the well-being of the community at a time when levels of loneliness and social isolation are higher due to Covid-19.

Eleri Lloyd Jones, Chief Officer at Age Cymru Gwynedd a Mon, said:

“This financial support will enable us to continue to be proactive in our communities providing essential services at a time when levels of loneliness and social isolation are higher because of Covid-19. We provide and deliver hot meals and essentials to people's homes, we keep in touch by making regular phone calls as well as providing information and advice where needed. We are delighted to receive this money at a time of great financial uncertainty for local charities. ”

Meals on Wheels provision prepared at Y Cartref Bontnewydd is available daily Monday to Friday with approximately 200 meals going per week. Meals on Wheels are also available in the Penygroes area on Wednesdays and Fridays through the efforts of our Lunch Club staff.

During the Covid-19 period we have been extremely fortunate in the dedication and hard work of the many volunteers who have been assisting us with the work of ensuring people are safe at home and in the community. One volunteer in particular has created and created over 1,000 face masks for distribution in the community and we are very grateful for that.

If you are in need of any of the services we offer OR if you are interested in volunteering with us and assisting the local community in these challenging times then we want to hear from you! You can contact us on 01286 685 921 or aled@acgm.co.uk
