VR Day Was VR Good!

What a fabulous Virtual Reality Experience Day in St Clears and Whitland hosted by Haroun and Helen at Age Cymru Dyfed this month. The world has moved increasingly online in recent years. Those who don't have access to the internet or a mobile device, nor the confidence to do things online, are at risk of being excluded from services and opportunities.
VR is an exciting new medium we are offering out to the over fifties to experience for themselves across West Wales in the three counties of old Dyfed - Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. VR days are delivered under the Digital Inclusion project which also serves to support the over fifties with the ever-increasing need to know how to do your own online banking and shopping.
Digital Inclusion project manager Peter Mcllory at Age Cymru said of the event;
"I am so pleased to say our VR sessions this week were a huge success! When they sent me the pictures last night it made me smile. I am so proud of Helen and Haroun for making it such an enjoyable event for the over fifties in West Wales. It was lovely to see people mixing who have never met before. Some even buddied up so they could watch what the other person was doing."
Age Cymru Dyfed’s CEO Simon Wright said;
“Digital Inclusion at Age Cymru Dyfed is all about helping our local communities adopt the skills needed to do online banking, food shopping and keeping in touch with loved ones where we teach the skills and loan the devices to try at home. We are proud to be supporting independent living at home for people of Dyfed for as long as possible which is very important to many people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. Experiencing virtual reality as part of the project brings members of our communities together to inspire them in a friendly environment. Well done team.”
One service user said this month,
"Oh my days! I just had the most AMAZING experience travelling above the forest into the sunset with Age Cymru Dyfed VR headsets. I was so sceptical but once it started, it was nothing short of emotional. Thank you Haroun at Age Cymru Dyfed for your guidance, patience and visionary application of this state of the art technology. Seriously folks, get in touch with Haroun. His passion for applying VR in the community is admirable and very exciting for our digital future. Deepest gratitude for the experience."
