Age Cymru Dyfed Receives Funding from Santander Foundation for Digital Inclusion
This January, new funding from Santander Foundation was granted to Age Cymru Dyfed to the tune of £150K across three years. The money, earmarked for the well-being of the over 50s in West Wales, will allow the charity to continue delivery of its Digital Inclusion agenda, improving the financial digital skills of local communities, helping with online banking and shopping skills, and reinforcing independence in their homes.
The project funding, earmarked for over fifties with basic digital awareness, builds on people’s capacity to shop and bank online. Three part-time digital financial inclusion jobs will be created to deliver the project across Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, and Ceredigion. As elderly populations continue to grow, this money is crucial in meeting demands to improve 'quality of life' for the over-fifties in rural Wales.
Age Cymru Dyfed as an independent charity and one-stop-shop in the region, supports the local needs of people who are often living alone and tackling loneliness and isolation - needing access to social welfare advice, and better transport and communication links and of course access to modern forms of social and business engagement. Services in addition to digital inclusion include information and advice, dementia support, cost of living advice, help in the home, social activities, a veteran’s project, and advocacy services.
The funding awarded comes from The Santander Foundation, an independent grant-making foundation funded and supported by Santander UK. The foundation is supporting Age Cymru Dyfed as part of the £4.8m funding programme to empower people digitally and financially across the UK.
Simon Wright, CEO at Age Cymru Dyfed said of the news,
“We’re delighted at Age Cymru Dyfed to be awarded £150k funding from Santander for our Digital Inclusion objectives. The money will directly be supporting the skills and well-being of our local communities in Wales.
Our digital inclusion project is hugely successful and makes a real difference to the lives of those who would otherwise struggle with accessing vital services online. This money will directly help the quality of life and independence in the home for the elderly – as online shopping and banking become more the norm as time goes on.”
Judith Moran, the Santander Foundation Chair said, “We’re delighted to be working alongside and supporting Age Cymru Dyfed, with their expertise and approach - this funding will positively change the lives of the residents of West Wales."
