A Happy Third Birthday Present to Age Cymru Dyfed

Published on 07 April 2023 12:09 PM

As we approach our third birthday as an independent charity in West Wales (April week 3), Age Cymru Dyfed reflects on the good work behind and ahead, while celebrating the appointment of a new Chairman to its Board of Trustees.

The first three years as an independent charity spanning 3 counties in West Wales has been eventful for Age Cymru Dyfed. The charity has been busy supporting hundreds of service users over 50s in West Wales, to help them love later life. From enhancing their lifestyles and supporting their needs in the home, to helping them with digital skills, wellbeing support, information and advice and reducing social isolation. The team now 80-strong celebrates this three-year milestone together.

A great third birthday present to mark this milestone has been the appointment of Peter Hamilton who lives in Mynyddygarreg in Carmarthenshire. He is now our second Chair on the Board of Trustees since 1st April 2023. Peter brings with him a wealth of experience from his extensive experience in charity and commercial roles.

Age Cymru Partnership is not new to Peter. Prior to being a board member with us, he has acted as a Trustee of Age Cymru Sir Gar and national charity Age Cymru. Peter, a Scot, started work life in the Royal Air Force before taking up international director appointments in the advertising industry and later running a successful business as a Head-hunter and Executive Search Specialist in London.

Following the sale of his business, Peter and wife Gill moved to Wales in 2007. Since living in West Wales, Peter has been active as a Rotarian, from 1982 he has held 3 club presidential roles and in 2019 he became Rotary International District Governor South Wales, responsible for 1,500 Rotarians and 60 Clubs.

New Chair of Age Cymru Dyfed' Board Peter Hamilton said,

“I’m honoured and delighted to take up the role of Chair of the Trustee Board at Age Cymru Dyfed and look forward to applying my experience and enthusiasm for the charity sector to ensure Age Cymru Dyfed remains the leading charity, supporting and delivering real benefit to the 50+ age group. This is a particularly difficult time for everyone, but the older generations are going through an even tougher time.

The charity is very lucky to have high-calibre dedicated staff who work hard to ensure we make a real difference to people’s lives in so many ways. The Trustee Board has a wide variety of skills and I look forward to working with them as we go from strength to strength.”

Age Cymru Dyfed's CEO Simon Wright said,

“We’ve come so far in our first three years as Age Cymru Dyfed. The work we have done has made a real difference and we are delighted to have Peter Hamilton as our new Chair to forge further excellent outcomes for the over fifties in West Wales. The charity is growing, and with recent funding awards to celebrate including money for digital inclusion for the coming 3 years and preventative community services in Carmarthenshire for 4 years, we see exciting times ahead. Well done team and volunteers who work tirelessly to make this happen. With the cost-of-living crisis and challenges such as 'heat or eat', we're proud to be here and look forward to our fourth year as the go-to charity for the over fifties in West Wales.”
