Volunteers’ Week 2023: Celebrate and Inspire

Age UK Coventry and Warwickshire marks Volunteers’ Week 2023.

2023 marks the 39th year of Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June), when Age UK Coventry and Warwickshire will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK. With this year’s theme of ‘Celebrate and Inspire’ we hope to encourage people to be the change that we want to see and get involved in volunteering in whatever way works for them.

The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering, so taking the time during Volunteers’ Week to celebrate their efforts and all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector and society as a whole has never been more important.

This Volunteers’ Week Age UK Coventry and Warwickshire will be celebrating their 300 volunteers, with a number of plans, including recognition of long serving volunteers, a tea party for befriending volunteers and a formal thank you letter to each volunteer from Age UK Coventry and Warwickshire’s Chair of Trustees.

Michael Garrett, Chief Executive, said “Volunteers help our charity as befrienders and counsellors, in our shops and re-use sites, and help us with activities in Coventry and in our Dementia Day Service in Warwickshire. We also have valuable office support volunteers. We really could not deliver our services without them and it is an honour to work alongside such wonderful people.”

Volunteering not only helps good causes, but can also provide rewarding opportunities for the volunteers themselves. Rita Solanki, who volunteers in Age UK Coventry and Warwickshire’s Clemens Street charity shop, said “Volunteering has given me a sense of purpose again after retiring, and it's a lovely workplace where you can make a difference and enjoy yourself at the same time”.
