On Tuesday 25th April, Gilbert Richard Craft & Computer Centre in Coventry held their 40th anniversary open day. It was a wonderful day with lots of people in attendance. The Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor Kevin Maton and Dr Kindy Sandhu, Councillor from the Earlsdon Ward attended the day and were shown around the full site. They were able to see the diverse range of activities offered at the Centre and gave the members a chance to showcase their jewellery, woodwork, pottery and textiles made in the classes at the centre. The Lord Mayor was particularly interested in the computer suite where he was able to talk about staying safe online to some clients who were enjoying a class at the time.
The Lord Mayor gave a formal speech, which highlighted his interest in volunteering and the importance of giving back to your community. We were also delighted to have a visit from Gilbert Richards' son - Tony Richards - who chatted to the staff and volunteers who run the centre.
The day also gave Age UK Coventry and Warwickshire the opportunity to raise awareness to the people in attendance of the services that we provide, which can be seen on our services page.
The day was a huge success and attended by lots of local people - well done to our Community Development Officer Mick Spicer and the volunteers at the Gilbert Richards Centre for organising such a fantastic day!
Age UK Coventry and Warwickshire always welcomes interest from volunteers and we encourage anyone interested to look further here.
