Mental Health Awareness Week 2024

Published on 13 May 2024 08:53 AM

Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 will take place from 13 to 19 May, on the theme of Movement. Movement is important for our mental health. But so many of us struggle to move enough. We know there are many different reasons for this, so this Mental Health Awareness Week we want to help people to find moments for movement in their daily routines. Going for a walk in your neighbourhood, putting on your favourite music and dancing around the living room, chair exercises when you’re watching television – it all counts!

We will be sharing tips, inspiration and encouragement on daily news articles and Facebook posts to explore the connection between movement and mental wellbeing. Did you know that staying active is good for our bodies and also for our minds. Research shows that regular movement can have a huge impact on mental health, especially for those of us who are aged 50+. Multiple studies have shown that older adults who engage in regular physical activity are 25% less likely to develop depression!  By simply incorporating movement into our daily routines, we're not only boosting our physical health but also fortifying our mental wellbeing.

So, whether it's taking a leisurely stroll in the park, practicing gentle yoga in your living room, or joining a line dancing class, let's make a commitment to move more for our mental health this week and beyond. Together, we can take steps towards happier, healthier lives. Let's get moving!
