Emma, Age UK Cornwall Ambassador, visits Falmouth Community Hub

Our inaugural Ambassador, Emma Eva – a celebrated ultra-marathon runner from the County – visited the Falmouth Community Hub at the beginning of November. Emma met our cherished clients and delved into the remarkable endeavors of our devoted volunteers. Joined by the Lucy Downing (Community Hub Manager) during a lively lunch, laughter echoed through the room as tales were exchanged.
Sharing Stories with Clients
There, Corona, freshly returned from a hospital stay, engaged in wonderful conversation with Emma alongside Amy. Soon, Corona will lend her support to the new AGE UK National Research Project dubbed ‘Insight,’ which seeks to illuminate the journeys of those returning home post-treatment. The project aims to enhance the Hospital and Home service and the collaboration with essential health agencies.
In this moment, Emma was also captivated by Clyde’s frequent visits to the Falmouth Hub, where his weekly meetings with clients hold great significance. At the age of 92, he particularly relishes the quiz sessions following lunch, often dazzling everyone with his vast knowledge of horticulture and history.
In the coming months, Emma’s visage will grace posters, doctor’s office screens, and various media outlets as she leads a heartfelt campaign to draw more volunteers into our Charity and Falmouth Community Hub. She is set to be interviewed by James on BBC Radio Cornwall later this month, where she will share the vital need for additional volunteers to ensure the Falmouth hub flourishes with its social and healthcare programs.

Emma reflected on her experience, stating, "I came away understanding how important the centre is to people for interaction, inclusion, and a break for their families, all the staff are Brilliant........ incredibly caring, we need more of them in the world. A little conversation can make such a difference to someone's day, the ladies and gents faces lit up with smiles! so lovely to see."
Before the festive season, Emma will also be joined by our second Ambassador, Jonathan. He operates a thriving mail-order business from Penryn, named Letterbox Hamper Company, and has generously donated a year’s worth of free hampers (20 per month) across all our Cornwall hubs, bringing joy to those in need and to caregivers who have gone above and beyond - sharing 'gifts or kindness'.
Here, you can see the whimsical Santa Hampa cartoon we crafted to celebrate this splendid partnership.
Jonathan and Emma will help us champion various projects throughout the County, and together, they will serve as beacons for a new wave of ambassadors we aspire to seek out in the upcoming year.
If you know someone who exemplifies ‘excellence’ in their pursuits, please reach out to us, and we shall follow your lead. You can find out more by contacting tim.guy@ageukcornwall.org.uk or lee.davies@ageukcornwall.org.uk
